The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles universe refers to Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl's collection of characters and stages that hail from the massive Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles media franchise. The franchise follows four mutated turtle brothers who inhabit a sewer in New York and train in ninjutsu. The NASB series primarily takes from the 1987 cartoon iteration of the characters and the video game adaptations by Konami released at the same time - unargubaly the most recognisable iteration of the characters, albeit one that did not air on Nickelodeon until after the NASB series started - with some extremely small references to other instalments in the franchise, such as voice line quotes and alternate costumes.

Trivia[]

  • The TMNT series is one of the few series that started out as a third party intellectual property before becoming a property under Viacom. The other being the Garfield series.
    • Additionally, Hey Arnold! began as a series of shorts on Sesame Street, creator Craig Barlett possessed the ownership of Arnold between those shorts and the production of the series, where they were sold to Nickelodeon.
  • The TMNT series is the first series in the base roster to have a DLC fighter.
    • This followed by SpongeBob SquarePants and Avatar in the second game.
  • Despite having four characters in the first game, there are three stages from the series, with Shredder being added alongside the Slime stage. This makes the TMNT series the only series where the characters and stages are not the same amount.
    • This is later followed by The Loud House and Hey Arnold! in the second game, where Lucy is the only playable character, while the series is represented by two stages, while Grandma Gertie and Gerald are both playable with only one Arnold stage.
  • Counting the rosters from both games; The TMNT series holds the record for the most playable characters with seven characters overall. Below are SpongeBob SquarePants and Avatar, both with six.
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is one of two universes to have had iterations solely aimed at adults, the other being The Ren & Stimpy Show. Additionally, The Wild Thornberrys was initially pitched as an adult cartoon, but this version never made it to air.
