No one expects Grandma Gertie to save the day!
Grandma Gertie is a playable character in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2, originating from Hey Arnold!. She was revealed by Comicbook.com on September 18th, 2023.
Moveset[]
Playstyle[]
Gertie is a mix-up bruiser character, focusing on dealing massive damage and using her unpredictable Gift Bag to overwhelm opponents. Her attacks, especially her Forward Air Light, have massive amounts of knockback, allowing her to secure early KOs. As well as this, she's very good at combos and juggling opponents, and her recovery is pretty good. Her main weakness is her poor disadvantage, large size making her combo food, and inconsistency of her Up Special.
Light Attacks[]
- Spinning Yarn (Neutral Grounded): Gertie rapidly knits with sewing needles, with the finishing hit being a green sweater. The move is underwhelming overall, as it has low range, high endlag and mediocre KO potential.
- Chopping Knife (Side Grounded): A forwards chop. This move is a good shield pressure tool, but is her slowest tilt.
- Axe Kick (Up Grounded): Swings her leg downward. This move can spike at ledge, and is a good combo starter.
- Sweep (Down Grounded): Sweeps the floor. Dashes Gertie forward a small distance. This move starts combos very reliably, but is unsafe on shield.
- Twister (Neutral Aerial): Does a frenzy of kicks and punches all around her. Hits twice, although the first hit struggles to connect with the second. Makes up for it with strong knockback. DAMAGE: 5 (Hit 1), 10 (Hit 2)
- The Knee (Forward Aerial): Thrusts her knee into the opponent. If connected properly, this move does massive knockback, but has a much weaker sourspot. DAMAGE: 16 (Sweet), 6 (Sour)
- Frying Pain (Back Aerial): Swings a frying pan backwards. A good burst option in the air and can start combos at low percents. DAMAGE: 12
- Head Smash (Up Aerial): Headbutts upward. A very good juggling tool on platforms and a decent KO option at the top blast zone.
- Cleaning House (Down Aerial): Sweeps in a circle. Hits multiple times below her, and allows for good coverage, though it has poor knockback.
Strong Attacks[]
- Home run (Side Grounded): Swings a halberd forward. Very good range.
- For the Empire (Up Grounded): Swings a halberd upward. Very good range.
- Kickulator (Down Grounded): Does a spinning kick on the ground. Is decently fast but has high endlag and is very unsafe on shields.
- Flying Kick (Side Aerial): Does a flying kick. Gives her a horizontal and slight vertical boost. This move is an amazing movement option for Gertie, especially when cancelling momentum.
- Rebellion (Up Aerial): Screams in a megaphone. Mostly diagonal hitbox, making it difficult to land.
- Freedom Swing (Down Aerial): Swings on a grappling hook like a vine. Slightly worse than her flying kick, though this can still be used for movement and mixups.
Special Attacks[]
- Calamity Strike (Neutral): A chargeable attack. The more you charge, the more damage and knockback it does. This uppercut is extremely powerful when fully charged, having extremely high knockback and shield damage. Shielding mid-charge will save the charge of this move. Gertie will glow pink when fully charged.
- Slime Version: Rises much higher, allowing it to connect with opponents easier (the animation also being much more akin to a Shoryuken).
- Blitz (Side): Gertie punches forward a set distance. Can be used as recovery. The move is strongest when hit at the end of the move, otherwise the attack will be significantly weaker. Use this to mixup opponents or catch them offguard with it's fast startup.
- Slime Version: Gives Gertie super armor during the attack.
- Getting Hooked (Up): Gertie throws a grappling hook upward. A tether recovery which has no hitbox.
- Slime Version: Includes a small jump to increase recovery.
- Christmas Gift (Down): Gertie pulls a random gift from her gift bag. Each item has unique effects. Piano is the strongest, flying up before crashing down the size of 3/4 the stage, but can also hit Gertie. There are 16 items total, and two items can be pulled at a time (though if you are holding an item-based pull, an item will have a 0% chance of spawning). DAMAGE: Varies
- Slime Version: Allows Gertie to spawn an item instantly even with the max amount of items.
Throws[]
- Forward Throw: Gertie slams pancakes in the opponent's face. Has a surprising amount of power!
- Back Throw: Gertie puts the opponents in a pot and does a German Suplex on them. A high-knockback throw good for getting opponents offstage.
- Up Throw: Gertie "flips" the opponent three times with a frying pan. Her slowest throw by far, and has little combo potential, but makes up for it with very high KO power. DAMAGE: 15
- Down Throw: Gertie stirs the opponent in a pot, launching them upward. Her weakest throw knockback-wise, but starts combos the best out of all her tools, making this overall her best throw.
Other[]
- Take the Shoe! (Dash Attack): Does a dashing kick. The move is good at ledges or getting your opponent offstage, but it has a weird hitbox and high endlag, making it difficult to land in neutral.
- Super Attack: Gertie sparks two wires together, causing a train to ram into the opponent, with Gertie finishing in a pose. DAMAGE: 40
