Fan of lasagna. Not a fan of Mondays.

Garfield is a playable character in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2, originating from the franchise of the same name. He was announced in the reveal trailer released on July 27th, 2023.

Moveset[]

Playstyle[]

Garfield is an all-rounder install character. who focuses on being in Sugar Rush at all times and overwhelming opponents who attack carelessly. However, he noticeably lacks range and speed.

Gimmick[]

Garfield can gain sweets by hitting opponents with food-based attacks (e.g. his Side Special, Pie Party). Although the more food you have, the slower and heavier you can become. You can consume the food you've collected by using Down Special, which makes Garfield significantly faster, as well as giving him a better recovery.

Light Attacks[]

  • Lasagna Frenzy(Neutral Grounded): Garfield eats lasagna rapidly before kicking the opponent away.
  • Forward Kick(Side Grounded): A somewhat long-ranged kick. DAMAGE: 9
  • Donut Bother Me (Up Grounded): Garfield thrusts a donut upward. DAMAGE: 5
  • Tail Sweep(Down Grounded): Sweeps his tail around him. DAMAGE: 8
  • Happy Day (Neutral Aerial): Garfield extends all his limbs out while screaming. DAMAGE: 6
  • This is Pooky(Forward Aerial): Garfield thrusts Pooky forward while holding him. DAMAGE: 11
  • Dab Kick(Back Aerial): Garfield kicks backwards while dabbing. DAMAGE: 11
  • Thrashing Thoughts (Up Aerial): Garfield thinks of lasagna, resulting in a thought bubble that launches opponents upward. DAMAGE: 12
  • Spin Drop (Down Aerial): Garfield does a drill kick. Unlike his strong down air, this move hits multiple times. DAMAGE:

Strong Attacks[]

  • Leg Slap (Side Grounded): A forward swing of a chicken leg. DAMAGE; 16
  • Huge Yawn(Up Grounded): Garfield falls asleep before waking up and yawning. DAMAGE: 16
  • Classy Shtick (Down Grounded): Garfield dons a magician hat and shoots a magic blast onto the ground with a cane. Very fast. DAMAGE: 13
  • Chomp Chomp(Side Aerial): Garfield bites forward. DAMAGE: 15
  • Air Scratch(Up Aerial): Garfield scratches upwards.
  • Waste Disposal(Down Aerial): Garfield does a drill kick. Unlike Spin Drop, this move only hits once, but has a powerful spike. DAMAGE: 10

Special Attacks[]

  • ''That Old School Shine'' (Neutral): Garfield assumes the form of his 1978 appearance and creates a forcefield around himself, which reflects projectiles and (similarly to El Tigre’s neutral special) damages nearby opponents. Can be held and jump canceled. Now where could Jon's shine be? DAMAGE: 3
    • Slime Version: Knocks opponents upwards, making the move even more similar to El Tigre's neutral special.
  • Pie Throw (Side): Garfield throws a pie forward in a set order. The first pie launches opponents away, the second one launches up, and the third launches towards Garfield. DAMAGE: 3
    • Slime Version: Throws a larger pie that hits multiple times and goes through opponents. DAMAGE: 10 (per hit)
  • Feral Cat (Up): Garfield leaps high in the air and pounces back down in an upwards arc. Can be canceled after a short while with a jump or an attack. DAMAGE: 8 (Sweet), 7 (Sour)
    • Slime Version: Reaches more height.
  • Sugar Rush (Down): All of Garfield’s food-based attacks leave a bowl of sweets that he can pick up, which fills a food meter near his percentage while also gradually making him slower and heavier. Using down special when the meter is filled activates Sugar Rush; a state where Garfield’s speed, jump height and falling speed are boosted significantly for a short time. His up special also gains increased height. Lasts longer the more you fill up the meter. Without food in the meter, Garfield rubs his belly, which does nothing. DAMAGE: None
    • Slime Version: Fills the meter halfway before activating.

Throws[]

  • Grab: Grabs with one hand.
  • Pummel: Slaps the opponent with an ice cream cone.
  • Forward Throw: Simply shoves the opponent forward.
  • Back Throw: Kicks a bowl of cat food away, also launching the opponent.
  • Up Throw: Swings the opponent upward with a spatula.
  • Down Throw: Stomps on the opponent repeatedly.

Other[]

  • Tap Dance (Dash Attack): Garfield does a fast tap dance while running.
  • Super Attack: The opponent is attacked by a group of sentient sweets on top of a large cake.

Trivia[]

  • One of Garfield's alternate costumes was originally supposed to be "Garfello" from the comic strip "Garfield Meets The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles", which art director Diego Hernandez described as "one of the coolest costumes in the game". While the costume had to be removed for unknown reasons, its textures are still present in the game's files.
  • Because Garfield only speaks in his thoughts, Vlad Plasmius and Clockwork have additional lines of dialogue in the Campaign acknowledging that he doesn’t verbally talk (and being rather annoyed by it).
  • Garfield's Super was originally planned to feature him inhaling a large amount of food, healing himself. This was changed due to it being difficult to balance.
  • Garfield's neutral special originally featured him smoking a pipe in reference to the infamous 7/27/1978 comic, commonly known as the Pipe Strip. This was changed due to censorship guidelines.[1]
  • Like Reptar, Vlad Plasmius, Nora Wakeman, and Clockwork have additional lines of dialogue in the Campaign.
  • When granted to defeat Clockwork, Plankton, Garfield, Korra, Donatello, April, Gerald, Nigel, Jenny, Ren & Stimpy, Zuko, and Rocksteady are the only fighters to use the same quote when battling player in mind-control.
  • Plankton, El Tigre, Rocko, Jimmy Neutron, Garfield, Grandma Gertie, Gerald, Nigel Thornberry, Zim, Reptar, and Ren & Stimpy are the only 11 characters whose dialogue renders that are full-on renders
  • SpongeBob, Garfield and Azula are the only 3 playable characters whose battle quotes were used in Campaign Mode
