The brains with the bo staff.
Donatello is a playable character in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2, originating from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He was announced in the reveal trailer released on July 27th, 2023.
Moveset[]
Playstyle[]
Donatello is a defensive ranged character with some of the longest ranged attacks in the game, and mix-ups with his Smoke Bomb. He has high execution and technical combos that can be extremely unpredictable and can lead to early KOs. His main weaknesses are his sluggish movement, little safe-on-shield attacks, and his exploitative nature offstage due to his lack of recovery mixups. Overall, you must play Donatello patiently and avoid aggression whenever possible in order to get the best out of him.
Light Attacks[]
- Poke Strike (Neutral Grounded): A rapid jab with his staff that finishes in slamming the staff downward. This is Donatello's fastest normal move. While this is a good move to throw out, do keep in mind that it isn't safe on shield. DAMAGE: 3 (Hits 1-2), 1 (Flurry), 6 (Finisher)
- One Handed Spin (Side Grounded): Donnie spins around his staff. Mostly meant as a get-off-me tool. It has very unique hitboxes: the Upper Half, which launches opponents up and behind Donatello and is mostly unreliable, Lower Front Quarter, sends upward and away from Donnie and is a strong KO option, and Lower Back Quarter, sends down and away, making it a powerful spiking KO move. Usually in most scenarios, Lower Front Quarter will land. DAMAGE: 10
- Balance Spin (Up Grounded): Spins his staff upward. Relatively slow, but a great anti-air that can continue juggles. It can even combo into itself! DAMAGE: 9
- Ninja Slide (Down Grounded): Slides forward. Undoubtedly one of his best moves, as if you press the attack button again during this move, he will do an upward kick, setting opponents up for Up Grounded or an aerial combo. DAMAGE: 9
- Warrior’s Cycle (Neutral Aerial): Swings the staff in a circle, with a very large hitbox. This is a great move to continue combos, but can be punished easily when in disadvantage. DAMAGE: 9
- Big Bonk (Forward Aerial): Swings the staff forward. This move comes out fairly quickly and is one of Donatello's best aerial KO moves. DAMAGE: 12
- Reverse Stun Thrust (Back Aerial): Swings the staff backward. The move has a sweetspot at the tip of the staff. The sweetspot is meant for KOs, while the weak hit is meant for combos. This is one of his safer aerials due to it's wide horizontal reach. DAMAGE: 15 (Sweet), 8 (Sour)
- Air Swipe (Up Aerial): Thrusts the staff upward. The attack comes out quickly, allowing for easier juggling. DAMAGE: 10 (Sweet), 6 (Sour)
- Downward Thrust (Down Aerial): Pokes downward with his staff. Compared to his other aerials, this one has the lowest range. Spikes opponents downward as well if the tip hits. If it doesn't land, the move sends upward, making it a better, yet more niche combo option. DAMAGE: 10 (Sweet), 7 (Sour)
Charge Attacks[]
- Ground Smash (Side Grounded): Attaches a rocket to his staff and swings it like a hammer. If the attack button is pressed again, he slams it to the ground for two hits. The move, despite it's looks, isn't a good anti-air and surprisingly has less range than his other moves, as well as being extremely unsafe on shield due to it's little shield-push. However it isn't bad at all, as the move has very high KO power especially on the second hit, and the move is still overall very large. DAMAGE: 14 (Hit 1), 20 (Hit 2)
- Pole Kick (Up Grounded): Charges before leaping up into the air. The move is a very strong anti-air due to his high jump. The initial hit right when he jumps is strongest, and gets weaker over time (Frame 14 / Frame 21). DAMAGE: 18 (Sweet), 14 (Sour) 10 (Very Sour)
- Pivot Swipe (Down Grounded): Donnie spins around his staff while kicking. The move always sends the opponent behind Donatello, no matter what. Has the most shield push of his charge attacks, making it good for forcing teeters. DAMAGE: 13
- Hyper Spectral Blaster (Side Aerial): Shoots a gun blast forward. This move is one of Donatello's best KO tools due to it's very high knockback. The move also travels very far horizontally, making it safer on shield. If you hit the inner most hitbox of the move, it will send opponents behind Donatello. DAMAGE: 16
- Angel Swipe (Up Aerial): Swings the staff in a very wide arc. This move has GIGANTIC range, making it overall his best move besides Neutral Air Light in terms of reach. This is a very good vertical KO tool. Slime-cancelling Sky Strike into this move is extremely reliable for finishing opponents. DAMAGE: 14
- Dive Kick (Down Aerial): A diving kick move. Travels very far horizontally, making it useful for recovery. DAMAGE: 16 (Sweet), 10 (Sour)
Special Attacks[]
- Electro-Grenade (Neutral): Donnie tosses an Electro-Grenade upwards. While active, you can attack it to send it towards your opponents. You can also hold the button to use a dedicated swing attack that launches the grenade at a default angle, and can also reflect projectiles. DAMAGE: 5 (Grenade), 6 (Swing)
- Slime Version: Throws out three grenades instead of one. The other two travel much higher than the first grenade, allowing Donatello to create a spread of projectiles.
- Smoke Bomb (Side): Donnie tosses a smoke bomb forward in an arc; leaving a small cloud of smoke where it lands. By pressing side special again, you can instantly teleport to the smoke cloud no matter where you are. The initial toss has farther range when holding the button. The teleport can be jump-canceled. It's main flaw is that the smoke bomb can be destroyed in a single hit, making it hard to teleport back onstage if the opponent knows that it's coming out. DAMAGE: None
- Slime Version: Allows you to teleport in mid-air. If the smoke bomb lands on-stage and you teleport right as it does so, the smoke will remain, allowing you to teleport to the same spot twice.
- Sky Strike (Up): Donnie slashes his staff upwards while ascending a short distance with his jet pack. Very limited horizontal mobility, forcing Donatello to rely on his Dive Kick and Smoke Bomb in order to have better horizontal recovery. DAMAGE: 13 (Sweet), 9 (Sour)
- Slime Version: The move simply travels higher with no other effects.
- Cheapskate Counter Attack (Down): Donnie initiates a defensive stance. When hit during this, he teleports behind the opponent and hits them with a counter attack. The counterattack goes very far horizontally as he rides on a skateboard. If Donatello counters a projectile, he will simply ride forward instead of teleporting first. Mostly meant as a way to escape combos and juggling. DAMAGE: 8
- Slime Version: Increased damage. DAMAGE: 15
Throws[]
- Grab: Simply does a one-handed grab.
- Pummel: Slams the opponent backward. DAMAGE: 1
- Forward Throw: Shoves the opponent away. This is Donatello's fastest throw, and is useful for getting opponents offstage. DAMAGE: 8
- Back Throw: Donnie slams the opponent behind himself. His weakest throw knockback-wise, making it not super useful. DAMAGE: 9
- Up Throw: Pokes the opponent diagonally upward with his staff. This is Donatello's main KO throw. DAMAGE: 9
- Down Throw: Slams on the opponent with his shell. This is the throw Donatello can get combos off of. DAMAGE: 8
Other[]
- Pole Vault (Dash Attack): Dashes and kicks forward. The hitbox doesn't come out until Donatello is off the ground, making the move have slow startup overall. Slime-cancelling the attack gives Donatello quite a bit of momentum. DAMAGE: 9
- Super Attack: Hops in his Turtle Van and teams up with Michelangelo, Leonardo and Raphael to shoot lasers at their opponent. DAMAGE: 40
